Foreground has been completed.  Aspen trees are also almost done.  Some tonal adjustments have been made to the mid-ground banks.

Sept. 9, 2006

Sky has been re-painted.
-The trees on the left have been blocked in a second time.
- The water is more defined with reflections and ripples.
-The far mountains have been repainted in more dusky values with blurred edges to heighten a sense of distance.
-The grassy banks on the left are more detailed, as is the far right bank.
-The aspen trunks on the right are deeper in hue, but not yet completed.

Details and value adjustments are being made to the middle ground hills, trees and brush as I move down the canvas.

Aspen trees on the right have been blocked in to help with the value adjustments as well as the desired twisting and leanings of the tree trunks.

Although aspen trunks are considered "white", they will be painted a much darker golden grey-green.  This will allow the aspens in the middle ground to appear more brilliant and the view to feel as though he is among the aspens in the foreground.

I'm fairly certain as well that the sky will need to be a darker shade of coral.  This in turn will impact the colors used for the river.  Before this can be determined, however, more of the middle ground needs to be completed.

Using grid system to keep things in perspective and so I don't get "lost" in the process of converting a small image into the larger format.  Notice the prototype study on the floor against the wall.
