Members of the Society of Animal Artists have chosen work by Littleton, Colorado artist, Kay Witherspoon for exhibition in the 47th Annual National Exhibition of contemporary wildlife art.  Her oil painting, “Lords Of The Rockies” depicts rocky mountain rams from a band near Georgetown, Colorado. The exhibition of one hundred twenty-five paintings and sculptures takes place at The Wildlife Experience Museum in Parker, Colorado, from October 20, 2007 to February 17, 2008.  For more information on the exhibition and for directions to the museum, visit The Wildlife Experience Museum website at: http://thewildlifeexperience.org .

This is the first time in 47 years that the metro-Denver area has hosted the opening of this popular exhibition of art from across the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa.  After leaving Denver in February, the exhibition will then tour various cities across America during 2007-2008.  Founded in the 1950‘s, The Society of Animal Artists is dedicated to the portrayal of our living heritage and its preservation through demonstrations, seminars, and lectures and by preserving and promoting excellence in art exhibitions of the animal kingdom. This is also the third consecutive year that work by newly appointed society member, Kay Witherspoon, has been selected from among the society’s membership of 410 painters and sculptors.  Witherspoon will be vying for several awards including the Society of Animal Artists’ highest honor, the Award of Excellence, bestowed on those works of art in each Society Annual Exhibition, which are judged to represent the highest standards of artistic excellence. 

Witherspoon has lived in the metro- Denver area since 1975. She is a member of the American Academy of Equine Art and an associate member of the Oil Painters of America.  Her equine paintings have been featured by invitation in Great Britain’s Hurlingham Polo Association’s, “Book of the Season” and the “Royal Ascot Book, 2005”.  She has also been featured in “International Artist” magazine; “Equine Image” magazine; “Coast” magazine, and “Sporting Classics” magazine.  Her polo work as been featured on numerous polo program covers for the Denver Polo Classic; the University of Virginia and Yale University polo club's Harriman Cup; Lexington, Kentucky’s polo club; and Florida’s Vero Beach Polo Club.  Her work is included in the collections of William Porter, founder of E-Trade and the International Securities Exchange; Mr. & Mrs. Dave & Gail Liniger, founders of The Wildlife Experience Museum and of ReMax International ; the Asociacion Argentina De Polo; the Federation of International Polo; and Canada’s Malsbury Investment Corporation to name a few.  She is currently preparing for year long, 24 painting commission for the art curator of New York’s Ritz Carlton Hotel and the Little Nell in Aspen, CO.  For more information, visit http://www.kaywitherspoon.com/Artist.htm.
