	"Determination" - recipient of the 2010 Award of Excellence by the American American Society of Animal Artists at the 50th Anniversary Exhibition of Art and the Animal Exhibition which opened in San Diego, CA September 4th, 2010
	Since 1979, the American Society of Animal Artists has awarded 12 members with the Award of Excellence at their annual Art And The Animal Exhibition “…for those works of art in each SAA Annual Exhibition which are judged to represent the highest standards of artistic excellence.  Designed by the late noted sculptor, Donald Miller, from Paul Bransom’s “Catasus” logo, these bronze medals are the most important artistic awards bestowed by the Society.
	The winners are selected each year by a prestigious panel of judges chosen from art and natural history institutions across the nation.”  The judges for the 2010, 50th anniversary exhibition were: Allison Alberts, Ph.D. – Chief Conservation Officer, San Diego Zoo’s Conservation Institute Joan Embery – Wildlife Conservationists and former Ambassador of the San Diego Zoo Exequiel Excurra, Ph.   ●  Kay Witherspoon's painting, "Determination",  has been accepted into the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Society of Animal Artists National Exhibition which opens in San Diego, CA.  The exhibit is on display from September 1 through October 31, 2010 at the San Diego Natural History Museum.  

"We had 434 submissions (317 2D and 117 3D) from 256 of our members for this year’s exhibition, and the quality was phenomenal.  It was definitely the toughest jury ever, so you should be especially proud that your work was selected.  The caliber of the entries was superb; we could easily have selected two complete shows and have had equal levels of excellence in both."
